July 30th Letter

Hello everybody!

I felt like I should probably update you on what's been happening down here!
Well, the top story is that we got in a car accident!  No big deal.  We were stopped in preparation to make a left-hand turn and a truck didn't stop in time and plowed in to the car that was stopped behind us, which in turn plowed in to us.  Again, no big deal.  The best part is, I got a concussion and spent the night in the ER! Again, no big deal.  Basically I was struggling to focus and couldn't really remember things clearly, so our Mission Nurse told me to go to the ER at 10:00 at night.  I didn't want to, but she and my companion insisted.  So we called a member (Sister Price) who took us on the 40 minute trek to the emergency room.  Then sat there until 5:30 in the morning when they finally released me.  It was the worst experience of my life.  We didn't get home until 6:30 in the morning.  I'm so grateful that Sister Price went with us.  It was like having a mom to take care of me again.  I just bawled my eyes out at her generous offer to go with me.

What else is going on..... We are teaching a man named Charles Lane. He lives across the street from an elderly lady that we visit frequently.  He was impressed that we visited her and wanted to talk with us about what it is that we are doing.  So we talked with him about his beliefs and he confessed that he felt like there were gaping holes in his knowledge of the gospel.  That the Bible was missing parts and was probably mistranslated at times by people who didn't have the authority to interpret it.  He's pretty much the nicest person I've ever met.  We sit with him on his carport and teach him.  He's been reading from the Book of Mormon and just loves it.  We are so excited to be teaching him.  He and the Price family are rays of sunshine for me.

That's pretty much it! I don't have much time to write any more details.  We're just trying our best to work with what we've got here! I love the people and I love this area! I'm learning a lot.  Especially about patience.....

Love,
Sister McElderry
